Welcome to The Overload
Welcome to The Overload.
The Overload is a free online community and newsletter bringing together the foremost voices in American rugby to elevate the conversation of rugby in America.
We aim to be your inside line on rugby in the United States and beyond. Whether you're tracking the rise of American talent, staying sharp on the global game, or working to build rugby's next chapter here at home, this newsletter is for you. Written by industry insiders we aim to bring clarity, context and high level long form conversation to the American rugby audience.
Nothing is off limits. We will discuss national teams, sevens, fifteens, MLR, college rugby, overseas rugby, rugby league - and grassroots as well. We aim to connect the dots between rugby in the United States and the world, bringing a new depth of understanding to the world of rugby.
Who are we?
Jack Megaw - Co-Lead Editor
A rugby player growing up in London and in university, Jack started out as a photojournalist and picture editor covering sport in the UK. He fell into the American rugby universe in 2012 when he took on a commercial photography role with the then Collegiate Rugby Championship in Philadelphia, USA Sevens in Las Vegas, and later the LA Sevens. Gradually over years Jack has become involved in the marketing of the sport to the American market, helping out with on the ground social content and then moving into a marketing role with AEG Rugby. Additionally Jack has also worked on marketing roles in the sport tech sector, working with companies such as Supersapiens and Body Rocket. Away from work you can probably find Jack out on his bike, competing in time trials and cyclocross - or running around with a film camera.
In 2025 seeing the need to elevate the conversation of rugby in the United States Jack returned to his journalism roots to co-found The Overload.
Thomas McGlinchey - Co-Lead Editor
A former award-winning newspaper sports reporter in the Philadelphia area, Tom has always been curious about those “other sports.” First exposed to rugby while interning abroad in Ireland while in college, Tom returned home determined to play, and play he did…for Temple University’s B team, which was probably a generous assessment of his ability. He has stayed connected to the game over the years and is determined to elevate the coverage of rugby in America.
